After many years of service, Portal Wisconsin has closed.
Since the portal's official debut on January 14th, 2002, the internet has evolved greatly, with new, specialized resources developing quickly across the web. Portal Wisconsin was created by the Cultural Coalition of Wisconsin, a partnership of eight leading cultural agencies, to provide a centralized public service for the state's arts, humanities, and history. Major support for the project was provided by the Future Fund of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, with additional seed money from the University of Wisconsin Extension and the National Endowment for the Arts.
At its debut, the site included a statewide events calendar, searchable databases, feature stories, and streaming digital media. The project was a collaborative effort involving partners such as Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television, the Wisconsin Arts Board, and the Wisconsin Historical Society.
