Welcome to our series, Spotlighting Wisconsin! This series spotlights arts organizations across the state (including some of our wonderful grantees), and showcases the amazing work they do in their communities, along with sharing the why, or what drives them as an organization to do the work they do.
Nā Hale Studios
Butler
Nā Hale Studios, is a place where everyone is welcomed with the spirit of aloha. Here we embrace the diversity of our haumāna (students), and are passionate about inspiriring and enrichling lives through the cultural arts. It is our hope that when you come here, you meet new friends, and ohana, and build strong and lasting bonds with our community. We strive to enrich your life and help you to blossom through Hawaiian principals and values. Come grow with us!
In response to numerous requests for instruction over the years, Nā Hale now offers an array of cultural enrichment classes and workshops in Butler, Wisconsin, a crossroads of diverse communities in the Greater Milwaukee area.
Our Resident and Guest Instructors share their diverse array of knowledge, culture, talent and passion for their craft, with their haumāna (students). Polynesian cultural knowledge can be difficult to find in the Midwest. For many Polynesians, Nā Hale is a place to connect to their ancestry while far from their ancestral homes. For others, Nā Hale is a place to connect to their hearts and spirits, to ground and center their selves, in a way that is distinctly Hawaiian.
Mission - To enrich and inspire lives through dance, culture, music, wellness, art and community; in the spirit of aloha, and in honor of indigenous wisdom and it's ability to nurture and unify people and the planet.
Our goal - To provide a high level of cultural education and enrichment programs to the community, that challenges Haumāna (Students) to grow as individuals and as part of the collective ‘ohana while protecting and strengthening the cultural arts, it’s integrity, it’s cultural and/or historical context, and honoring the Polynesian methods (both traditional and contemporary) by which the knowledge is disseminated and received.
Our Core Values - “Our Mission and Goals are put in place to ultimately create a place of healing for both people and the planet, and trusting that our indigenous ancestors hold knowledge and practices that have the power to do so. As Haumāna (Students), Knowledge Holders and Culture Keepers, we are the honored recipients of these teachings. As we strive for peace, growth, and longevity as people and as stewards of our environment and our communities, it is my hope that our collective of indigenous teachings and perspectives, helps us to integrate that sentiment and action into our own lives as individuals, but also as a part of a living whole.” -Malia Chow “Founder & Program Director
