Department of Administration Lobby Exhibit

The Wisconsin Arts Board Exhibit Space in the Department of Administration Building was specifically designed to promote the work of Wisconsin visual artists from all corners of the state. Ample wall space has accommodated group shows. Spacious display cases have allowed the exhibition of handmade jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and books, as well as unique “outsider art.”

The Wisconsin Arts Board Gallery is located in the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Building, 101 E. Wilson Street, First Floor, in Madison. It is open weekdays from 7 am until 5 pm.

DOA/WI Arts Board presents “Elegant Lines”

Mary Ellen Pollock, Ann Singsaas & Madison Area Open Art Studios
July 1 – August 22

Department of Administration Lobby ExhibitWisconsin Arts Board is pleased to introduce you to the elegant line drawings of Mary Ellen Pollock. Thirty-one pieces include illustrations created while collaborating with her poet/writer husband Jim Pollock. The book, entitled A Whole Different Animal, is a multi-media endeavor. Mary Ellen was born in Chicago, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in printmaking, etching and lithography. With pen tips, tiny brushes, Sumi and India ink she explores the graphic black on white qualities of line. Located in central Wisconsin, she is poised to illustrate a second book (in color) and is in the throes of organizing a fine-arts cooperative in Stevens Point.

Department of Administration Lobby ExhibitShe shares space with fellow artist Ann Singsaas, whose career as a biologist has had a distinct influence on her work. Her paintings on metal juxtapose the industrial and the natural, using a unique technique. She continues to learn, experiment and grow in her painting endeavors through practice while teaching students the infinite possibilities of composition, contrast, color, form and value found in nature. She finds endless inspiration in Wisconsin’s natural beauty and the creative culture fostered in our state.

Our showcases contain a preview of works by over two dozen local area artists who, along with 150 others, will be participating in the Madison-area Open Art Studios Festival and silent auction. This will take place on September 26th at the Overture Center. Open Art Studios provides Madison with greater access to visual artists and art-making by inviting the public into their studios during an annual city-wide visual arts event.
