Mentorship
Program for Wisconsin Artists
The Mentorship Program gives artists, who have
not previously received commissions with the Percent for Art Program, a chance
to gain valuable experience by working with an experienced mentor on a public
art project. Mentorship commissions have allocations of $16,000 to $25,000 and
are open to a pre-selected group of mentees. Selection committees for specific
projects select 1-3 semi-finalists from the roster of pre-selected artists.
These artist mentees are then assigned mentors from a pool of Midwestern
artists who have experience with public art/Percent for Art processes. The
mentees work with their mentors as they develop their initial design concept
and, if selected for the commission, continue working with the mentor during
the fabrication and installation phases of the project. As stipulated in the Percent for Art legislation, the artwork for each project is selected by a committee made up of arts professionals and state agency representatives. Each committee combines
local and state resources to balance the interests of the public, the agency receiving the artwork, the artist, and the state.
Please visit the current opportunities
page for details about the present status of the Mentorship Program.
