FIBER ART:
Quilts, Iroquois Finger Weaving, Sculptural Garments

The Department of Administration / Wisconsin Arts Board Gallery’s spring exhibit, March 23, 2003 through May 23, 2003 features three different approaches to working with fiber as an art form.

  • MILWAUKEE ART QUILT GROUP, Milwaukee – Members of the MAQG have chosen “The Circle of Life” as the theme of their 2003 collaborative effort. Bright, Bold and Beautiful describes the nineteen quilts displayed.
  • THE ONEIDA NATION MUSEUM, Oneida – Iroquois Finger Weaving along with Basketry and objects representing the Cornhusk Tradition are included in this exhibit that was made possible, in part, by a Wisconsin Arts Board grant to the Oneida Nation Arts Program.
  • MARILYN ANNIN, Land O’Lakes – Beginning with a welding torch and quarter inch steel rod these Sculptured Garments each act as a metaphor for a specific attitude or custom of our culture. Examples from “Sand Woman Series” and “Aprons as Shield Series” will be on display through June 15th, 2003.

The Wisconsin Arts Board Gallery is located in the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Building, 101 E. Wilson Street, 1st Floor, in Madison. It is open weekdays from 7a.m. until 5 p.m.

The purpose of the Wisconsin Arts Board Lobby Exhibit Gallery is to showcase the work of Wisconsin artists from all corners of the state. Ample wall space accommodates group shows. Spacious display cases allow the exhibition of handmade jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and books as well as unique “outsider art.”
