VISUAL ARTS

This directory provides information on Wisconsin artists who are available to come to your community. The Wisconsin Arts Board created this as a resource tool for presenters, including arts centers, colleges and universities, festivals, schools, civic organizations, presenters without facilities and any other group that hires artists to work within their community.

Also listed in the directory are artists available to lead residencies, therefore, the listings include visual and literary artists in addition to performing artists. Artists who have submitted at least two letters of reference from schools or arts organizations that have presented them in arts education programs and projects are noted as arts in education artists. Arts in education artists can be identified by the black AIE triangle in the upper-left corner of their descriptions.

All artists in this directory responded to an open invitation to submit information. The descriptions appear in the words the artists provided themselves, with minimal editing. Since these artists have not been selected through a review process, they represent varying levels of experience. Most fee ranges published are negotiable and do not include travel and per diem costs.

Please note: Presenters are not required to select artists from this directory to be eligible for support from the Wisconsin Arts Board. The selection of an artist from this directory does not guarantee funding from the Wisconsin Arts Board. If you are interested in the granting programs offered by the Wisconsin Arts Board, or technical support assistance, please contact us.

We urge you to take the time in the beginning of your planning to meet with participants to identify needs, goals, responsibilities, timelines, potential activities and partnerships as well as potential problems. Work cooperatively with the artist so that he/she knows what you expect and want to achieve from the project.

Use the contact information listed in the descriptions to learn more about an artist; please do not contact the Wisconsin Arts Board for the purpose of booking an artist. Give yourself plenty of lead time to discuss potential dates, fees, and special planning arrangements that may be necessary. You may want to consider block booking the artist in partnership with other organizations in your area. Block booking is the process whereby several organizations each agree to present the artist on a tour through the region – lowering travel and other costs for each.
