Legal Issues for Artists Workshop

The Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists Workshops
September 2007-May 2008

Are you looking for the skills you need to make your life in the arts? Look no further—the Wisconsin Arts Board and Arts Wisconsin, in partnership with Springboard for the Arts and local hosts around the state, are pleased to present these professional development workshops for Wisconsin and Upper Midwestern artists and creative entrepreneurs. Get educated, and get connected, at these information-packed, user-friendly workshops!

  • Chippewa Falls, January 18-19, 2008

Participants will have the opportunity before the workshop occurs to choose a third topic to discuss during the workshop.

Note: Legal Issues for Artists workshops will be presented through an online “webinar” series currently in development by the Wisconsin Arts Board and Arts Wisconsin. Check back for more information!

Agenda and format

  • Friday, 6-8:30pm: Participants will convene for information sharing/
    community building, usually with a potluck as a beginning. The purpose is to network and get information about Arts Wisconsin, Wisconsin Arts Board and Springboard for the Arts, and to preview the presentations for the next day. Potluck begins at 6 pm; presentations begin at 7 pm. Some sessions will be connected to a local art opening, performance, exhibition or event.
     
  • Saturday, 9am–5pm: Two workshop components and facilitated discussion on topics of concern to artists, such as digitizing portfolios and “monetizing” websites. Artists will be surveyed about these topics before the workshop weekend.
  • 9:00am: Registration, coffee, networking
  • 10:00am-12:00pm: Introductions/Session One “Work of Art” topic TBA
  • 12:00pm-1:30pm: Lunch and artist crosstalk (lunch provided)
  • 1:30-3:30pm: Session Two “Work of Art” topic TBA
  • 3:30-5:00pm: Participant-chosen topic facilitated discussion, wrap-up of day

Fees and registration

The cost is $85 per workshop (Kimberly and Platteville have different fee structures, check with Arts Wisconsin for more information)—a real bargain for the information you receive! The fee includes all sessions and materials, and coffee, snacks and lunch on Saturday. This affordable price is made possible with generous support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
