What are makerspaces? Why are makerspaces? Where are makerspaces?

We were inspired by a recent story published by Arts Midwest on makerspaces, and want to bring a specific focus in this week's edition of CC to all of the makerspaces in Wisconsin (spoiler alert: we have a lot!). If you aren't familiar, makerspaces are community operated, usually non-profit, cooperative spaces that encourage learning, making, innovating, tinkering, and teaching. Makerspaces vary in size and capacity, but most makerspaces are creative hubs where people can go to use tools and materials, while collaborating with creatives in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields.
