Welcome to our series, Spotlighting Wisconsin! This series spotlights arts organizations across the state (including some of our wonderful grantees), and showcases the amazing work they do in their communities, along with sharing the why, or what drives them as an organization to do the work they do.

Welcome to The Acreage, where creativity, education, and environmental stewardship converge to shape a sustainable and vibrant future.

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, we leverage the transformative potential of the arts, the healing power of nature, education, and environmental initiatives to foster positive change.

The Acreage is the lively heart of the Horst Rechelbacher Foundation, a private family foundation founded in 2000 to advance Horst Rechelbacher’s vision: empowering arts organizations, protecting the environment, and improving children’s health.

After Horst’s passing in 2014, the family donated his 360-acre Osceola, Wisconsin estate to the foundation, creating new opportunities for charitable programming aligned with the family’s long-term vision. In 2015 the foundation partnered with pollinator experts to create a pollinator sanctuary and research site. In 2016—under the leadership of Horst’s widow, Kiran Stordalen, and daughter, Nicole Rechelbacher-Thomas—the estate was renamed The Acreage at Osceola and designated the foundation’s primary charitable asset to broaden use of the land and facilities for public benefit.

Guided by a 2023 strategic plan, The Acreage now focuses on three pillars: arts, education, and environmental stewardship. Today it celebrates the intersection of art, ecology, and culture through artist residencies, visiting artists, workshops, community events, and programs that nourish mind, body, and spirit through nature and the arts.
