Welcome to our series Spotlighting Wisconsin! This project spotlights arts organizations across the state (including some of our wonderful grantees), and showcases the amazing work they do in their communities, along with sharing the why, or what drives them as an organization to do the work they do.

Beni Daiko
Madison

The Madison Japanese Taiko Group "Beni Daiko," is Madison's premiere mainland taiko drumming group. Founded in November 2012, the group now includes members from a variety of backgrounds. Beni means "deep red" in Japanese, representing Madison, and taiko (or daiko) means "drum."

Their mission is to teach, preserve, and perform the ancient art of Taiko drumming, a form of traditional Japanese musical expression that combines mental discipline and physical demand. Through their music, they aim to open a window into Japanese culture and strengthen bonds as a community. Since its founding, Beni Daiko has been performing and sharing Japanese culture at preschools, universities, senior centers, and at cultural events in Wisconsin and Iowa. In 2026, Beni Daiko has performed at over 40 events in Madison.
