We are continuing in our series, Spotlighting Wisconsin! This series spotlights arts organizations across the state (including some of our wonderful grantees), and showcases the amazing work they do in their communities, along with sharing the "why" or what drives them as an organization to do the work they do.

For our third spotlight:

COMSA
Based in Green Bay, Wisconsin

At COMSA (Community Services Agency), we believe that when refugees and immigrants are welcomed with dignity and given the right tools, they don’t just survive—they thrive. Founded in 2017 by refugees for refugees, our organization is rooted in lived experience and driven by the mission to help newcomers find stability and belonging in Brown County. Whether it’s accessing healthcare, navigating the job market, or supporting youth through tutoring, our multilingual team walks alongside families every step of the way.

We’re proud to offer culturally responsive services that reflect the rich diversity of our community, including Somali, Afghan, Ukrainian, and Arabic-speaking populations. Through partnerships with local schools, health systems, and employers, COMSA connects people to resources while fostering a sense of home and purpose. Every month, we assist around 100 individuals with housing, employment, translation, and more—and our support doesn't end when resettlement is complete. We continue to show up as neighbors, mentors, and advocates.

One of the most meaningful ways we celebrate our community is through our annual World Refugee Day event. This year, the celebration will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Perkins Park (600 N Fisk St, Green Bay, WI). It’s a joyful, family-friendly celebration of cultures, stories, and resilience. The event features music, traditional dance, global food, youth activities, soccer games, and a cultural fashion show that highlights the beauty and strength of refugee heritage. It’s not only a day of celebration, but a space for connection—where the broader community comes together to listen, learn, and stand in solidarity.

At COMSA, we know that sharing stories and cultural expression through the arts helps break down barriers and build deeper understanding. World Refugee Day is our way of saying: we are here, we belong, and we are proud to share who we are. We invite everyone to join us in this celebration of community, culture, and hope.
