What's Afoot Backstage - June 2025

June arrived, whirled, and departed with a rush here at the Arts Board! We launched a new series (Spotlighting Wisconsin) to recognize amazing arts organizations in the state, conducted site visits, collaborated and met with our partners, and attended American for the Arts' Conference in lovely Ohio.

Spotlighting Wisconsin

Welcome to our new series: Spotlighting Wisconsin! This series spotlights arts organizations across the state (including some of our wonderful grantees), and showcases the amazing work they do in their communities, along with sharing the "why" or what drives them as an organization to do the work they do. If you have questions, or would like to nominate an organization for a SW feature, reach out to us!

Site Visits

Our Assistant Executive Director, Karen Goeschko, connected in with Wisconsin's art community this month! She stopped by the Sun Prairie Mural Fest, during which nine new murals were unveiled, painted by artists from Wisconsin and outside of the state, and all inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. Pictured below on the right is (left) Barbara Behling, Tourism Director at Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce, (middle) Karen Goeschko, and (right) Lena Ugren, Mural Fest Visionary and Muralist.

Karen also stopped by the SHINE Sculpture Project ribbon cutting ceremony on June 26th, where she was also entrusted with being a guest speaker at the ceremony. Pictured below on the left is Karen with the Waupaca Community Arts Board members.

Continuing Collaboration

We continue to build relationships with key arts partners within and outside of Wisconsin, upholding our agency dedication to promote the arts for our constituents. We do this through many different ways! For example, just this month, our Executive Director George Tzougros connected in with folks at the Americans for the Arts' Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Arts Board team also met with Travel Wisconsin's Communication team, to learn more about each other's agencies, and how to best work together, for the interest of Wisconsinites. Lastly, we helped our friends at Wisconsin Humanities in finding a place to house boxes of their Love Wisconsin books, as Wisconsin Humanities enters hibernation (the books have found a home in our little storage room!). See below, (left) the cover page of the Love Wisconsin book and (right) the boxes of books in our storage room.
