Wisconsin by the People is a partnership between Wisconsin Humanities (WH) and the Wisconsin Arts Board (WAB), designed to support participants of WAB’s Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program in sharing their stories, cultural traditions, and artistic practices at events around the state. Through this collaboration, current and past Apprenticeship Program artists are enjoying workshops with WH’s Director of Community Powered, Chrissy Widmayer, that give them humanities tools to engage the public in dynamic conversations and demonstrations.
WAB’s Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program supports exemplary traditional artists and culture bearers in passing their skills and knowledge on to committed and talented apprentices. Participating artists include practitioners of Aztec dance, Haudenosaunee raised beadwork, Turkish water marbling, Mexican Son Jarocho music, Korean traditional paper arts, and more.
On August 20, 2026, the public is invited to join in celebrating these artists as they take the stage as part of Wisconsin Humanities’ Tradition Bearers, Live! event.
Stay tuned for news about the special showcase event, and for how you can hear from the artists through the Human Powered podcast, through updates on Wisconsin Humanities' website.
