Open Door Arts x Wisconsin Arts Board

WI’s many arts groups work in different ways, at different levels of capacity, to serve their communities, the artists with whom they engage, and their artforms. They keep the threads brightly colored and well spun in the weaving of Wisconsin's arts and culture ecosystem.

As your state arts agency, the Wisconsin Arts Board (Arts Board) is missioned to support, promote, and encourage access to that weaving.

With that in mind, on October 15, 2025, the WI Arts Board partnered with Massachusetts-based Open Door Arts to do a webinar on the accessibility self-assessment tool  (https://artsaccesshub.org/assess-plan/) that ODA created with and for arts organizations.

You can watch the recording of the webinar here, and view Open Door Arts' presentation here.

Beyond this online tool that helps organizations evaluate their accessibility, Open Door Arts' “Arts and Culture Accessibility Hub (https://artsaccesshub.org)” provides many  additional resources to help improve access, whatever an organization's capacity. In fact, these resources are designed to help organizations leverage their current capacity to connect more deeply and broadly with their communities, and perhaps to access additional funding in order to do so.

As a reminder, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wisconsin State Legislature, WAB provides grants and a number of taxpayer-supported services that we do our best to ensure are accessible to everyone. We highlight several of these here:

  • The daily Wisconsin Arts News (subscribe here)
  • Creative Copy, a bi-weekly resource on topics relevant to artists and arts groups (subscribe here) and
  • The Spotlighting Wisconsin series (to self/nominate an organization for a spotlight, please click here)

If you have questions about accessibility in general, please contact our Americans with Disabilities Act (ADACoordinator, Dale Johnson (dale.johnson@wisconsin.gov).

Questions about the Arts Access Hub/Accessibility Self-Assessment tool are best directed to the staff at Open Door Arts (TheHub@OpenDoorArtsMA.org).
